Travel guide of Carbondale22 km from Carbondale
This hike wasn’t easy. Not because it was long but because it was very steep. The ice and snow made it much more difficult than it should’ve been. The trail was narrow and slick. The high elevation made any effort feel like an extreme workout. Then, when I reached the top, one of the best waterfalls I’ve ever seen.

I had never been to this part of Colorado before. Leadville, Co. My dad went all the time for the fishing and this time I joined him. He was a stormy day which made for some slow driving and un-fun fishing. Made some amazing photos, though. I couldn’t get my eyes off the clouds. I still can’t.

Probably the greatest part about avoiding interstates on a road trip is discovering places you never knew existed. That was my experience with Black Canyon National Park.

This photo was taken right at the beginning of a trail called Lily Pad Trail in Silverthorne, CO — you can actually see it here. This trail actually goes at least a mile into the woods. I’ve been up here before and I knew that I just wanted to go right past the trailhead and try to get views of the forest from above. It was pretty windy when I got up there but once the wind died down some I got it in the air and went to take photos of as many trees as I could (not much else over there).

I’ve seen this mountain 100 times and failed to capture the beauty of it at least 1000 times. It’s so close to the location I stay at in Silverthorne, Colorado that I always seem to have either no foreground or a bunch of buildings in the way. This day in the fall was perfect though. Clouds covered the top, which is a sort of bowl anyways but you can’t tell in this photo. The orange stood out in the front like crazy. It was an easy shot to capture. Just point and shoot. It feels like I waited forever for this shot. Finally got it. Off to get the next one.

I wondered around this area for hours looking for different perspectives on these amazing mountains in Colorado. Turns out some of the best shots were the ones like this, not ones where I tried to get things out of the way.

I loved this perspective of the mountains through the trees. With how intense the orange was on the trees I had to snap a few shots with them in focus instead of the mountains to show off how crazy that orange was - think this did the trick.

Photography is based around light. Where it is and what it’s doing to the landscape in front of you. Since it’s so unpredictable, you can look at the same mountain range 100 times and never see something amazing, or see 100 amazing things. This night I just glanced out the window and saw some amazing light. I wasn’t sure at the time what the final photos would look like. I just had to do my best to capture part of what I could see. Just a bit of those crazy rays. Glad I pulled the camera out.

I love walking to this spot. I’ve been to it dozens of times and this is the first view of the mountains when you’re walking on this path. The view gets better but it’s hard to beat that first spot where you can see a view like this one. Lucky me, this spot had some golden colors for me to show off that crazy contrast of that snowy peak (peak 1).
